Lanzerac Wine Estate solar PV and battery system, Stellenbosch

Lanzerac Wine Estate’s solar PV and battery system pairs a 997 kWp array of 1,648 panels with 1,764 kWh of battery storage on a historic wine estate in Stellenbosch’s Jonkershoek Valley. The system carries a large share of the estate’s energy needs across its winemaking and hospitality operations — reducing its reliance on the grid and cutting its carbon emissions.

What the Lanzerac Wine Estate system covers

At close to 1 MWp, the array is sized for an estate that runs a working farm, a cellar and a hotel and hospitality operation on one site — loads that run from early morning well into the evening.

The 1,764 kWh battery bank means the system is not limited to daylight hours. Energy generated during the day is held for use into the evening, reducing grid draw at the most expensive times and keeping the estate running when supply is interrupted.
