Mabumba Solar Plant

Mabumba is a 50 MW grid-connected solar plant in Mansa, Luapula Province, Zambia, commissioned by President Hakainde Hichilema in April 2026. It is the first major power generation investment the province has seen in over sixty years. The plant comfortably meets Luapula’s peak demand, exporting surplus power to the national grid to strengthen supply across the country and ending years of load-shedding in the region.

What Mabumba Solar Plant delivers

Mabumba Solar Plant brings 50 MW of grid-connected generation to Luapula Province — the first major power generation investment the province has seen in more than sixty years.

Generation feeds the national grid, and the plant establishes utility-scale renewable capacity in a region that has historically depended on transmission from elsewhere.
